Community Bible Reading Group (CBR) Guide: Hebrews 1

WEEK 1

  • Pray

  • Read Hebrews 1

  • Stuff you should know:

    • The book of Hebrews is a letter written to followers of Jesus who were ethnically Jewish. There are constant references to the Old Testament laws, traditions, and sacrifices. They seem to be undergoing some sort of persecution and are tempted to give up on Jesus and return to Judaism (10:32-35).

    • Angels played a big role in Jewish tradition as mediators between God and his people. They were understood as the ones who gave Moses the law at Mt. Sinai, showing him and the people who God is.

  • Stuff you should see:

    • The Son makes God known better than any angel because the Son is God.

  • ACTS Prayer (Pray through your pen and conversation)

    • Adoration: Praise the Father for His attributes and actions

    • Confession: Confess your sinfulness and acknowledge your sins

    • Thanksgiving: Thank Jesus for his Salvation (past, present, future)

    • Supplication: Ask the Spirit to transform you in particular ways

  • Questions for Application:

    • In what ways does Jesus Christ reveal who God is? How does that affect how we can know God?

    • Think of the people in your life who have rejected God. Do you think they know God as he is known in Christ? What would it look like to share with them who God is as he is revealed in Christ?
