CBR Guide: Week 5

WEEK 5

  • Pray

  • Read Hebrews 5

  • Stuff you should know:

    • In the Old Testament, the priests represented the people to God. They talked with Him on their behalf. But, they were always imperfect representatives. There are sacrifices (Lev. 4) that anticipate the sins of the priests because they needed atonement just as much as the people they represented.

    • Melchizedek is the only true priest of God mentioned outside of Aaron’s family. Not much is known about him except that Abraham in Genesis 14 offers him a tithe of what he receives after a battle. Melchizedek then blesses Abraham in the name of God.

  • Stuff you should see:

    • Main point: Jesus is the only perfect priest. He needs no sacrifice for his own mistakes, but instead offered himself for ours. He lived the life obedience we never could and died the death we deserved becoming the source of our salvation.

  • ACTS Prayer (Pray through your pen and conversation)

    • Adoration: Praise the Father for His attributes and actions

    • Confession: Confess your sinfulness and acknowledge your sins

    • Thanksgiving: Thank Jesus for his Salvation (past, present, future)

    • Supplication: Ask the Spirit to transform you in particular ways

  • Questions for Application:

    • Jesus offered up, “prayers”, “cries”, and “tears,” as our high priest (v. 7). Do you know that Jesus represents us like that? Or, do you sometimes feel like Jesus saved us but is kind of indifferent toward you in the day to day?
